When did you join the Paladin family?
I joined the team in February 2009 as a Casual Security Guard and became full-time in April 2009.
-
Why did you get into the security industry and why Paladin?
I decided to try a career in security because I was looking for a challenging role and I wanted to gain some experience in this field. I'd just finished firefighting classes and was working casually, but I felt I wasn't getting the physical element I needed, that I'd trained so long and hard for. I was volunteering in the fracture clinic at Trillium Health Centre when I noticed Healthcare Security Officers running to respond to a code; which caught my eye as it was just the challenge I was looking for.

What interests you most about your job?
The diversity in the people you encounter every day - from race to religion, or illness and mental health issues, etc. Each interaction gives you a different experience and life-long training that will serve you well; both on- and off-duty.
-
How do you see the industry evolving in the future?
I see the professionalization of the industry continuing to grow so that everyone - from patients to visitors, or customers and members of the general public - can immediately see the high calibre of security professionals who work so hard behind the scenes to ensure their protection, and that of their surroundings.
-
What advice would you give anyone entering the security industry today?
To keep an open mind and think of security not as a past-time, but as a career with heightened responsibility and commitment.
