  TAMIAMI (CBSMiami) — A security guard has been hospitalized after he was reportedly shot inside a grocery store in Tamiami.

  It happened early Saturday at the Extra Supermarket at 12890 S.W. 8th Street.

  Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the victim as trauma alert in unknown condition.

  “Mr. Cortez is our employee,” said store owner Jorge Negrin, who spoke in Spanish. “He was assaulted and shot two or three times. He’s receiving medical attention at the moment and we hope for a speedy recovery.”

  As police investigated the scene, the supermarket’s large storefront window had been shattered.

  Outside of the store, two cases of Corona beer were on the ground not far from the entrance.

  Officials did not say what caused the shooting or if a suspect was apprehended.
