Paladin Security Officer wins Ron Minion Security Officer Of The Year 2012

While Ron had a soft spot for his numerous Canadian Champion German Shepard protection dogs, he was equally focused and dedicated to the professionalization of the security guard industry. He owned several private Security Agencies, including Base-Fort Patrol, Academy Protection and Minion Protection Services.

Mr. Minion was one of the first Certified Protection Professionals (CPP) in Canada and the driving force behind the formation of the Edmonton/Northern Alberta Chapter 156 and the Calgary/Southern Alberta Chapter 162 of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS).

The Canadian Region of ASIS recognized Mr. Minion as the first recipient of the Canadian Security Practitioner of the Year Award, which was originally named the Ron Minion Security Pioneer Award. This award is recognized each year at Canada Night at the ASIS annual seminar and exhibits.

The Ron Minion Memorial - Security Officer of the Year Award was dedicated to Mr. Minion for the tireless work he did to improve the lives of the everyday security guard. Mr. Minion stressed education, proper deportment and professionalism, and created the International Foundation for Protection Officers (IFPO), which is still today a leading security educational institution. Regrettably, Mr. Minion succumbed to ALS in 2009 after dedicating most of his life to the Canadian security industry.

The Ron Minion Award is presented to a security officer who best exemplifies the high quality, standards, professionalism and positive attitude that Mr. Minion instilled with his employees. The award recognizes the security guard not for his or her heroic acts, but rather for their everyday reliability, dedication to the job, outstanding customer service skills and recognition by clients.
In the four years since the award was created, two Paladin Security Officers in our Edmonton Branch have been appropriately recognized. Tim Misunis (Brookfield Kennedy), is pictured right receiving his award in 2010, while Bill MacRae (City of Edmonton), pictured top, was honoured yesterday at the Edmonton ASIS chapter luncheon.

Don Allan, CPP, who presented both Officers with their awards, commented on the day; "We're so proud of the two recipients of this prestigious award and congratulate them for this outstanding achievement."
