Alberta Director of Healthcare Security Vladimir Batinic's head shave for the CCS!
Earlier this Daffodil Month on the Paladin Blog, we announced Paladin's Partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society and how YOU can help us support Canadians with cancer.
To kick off our campaign, Paladin President Ashley Cooper shared his personal connection with cancer and why this cause is so important to us as a company that cares, as "Guest Fighter" on Our Fight For Life, as well as telling his story on PaladinSecurityTV.
Last week, in our new Paladin In The Community series, we were able to share two more staff stories with you - the first from Client Service Manager Susan Barsness in our Edmonton Branch, and a video from Corporate Employee Care Coordinator Jason Creek, which you can watch here
And, on Monday, we were honoured to share Vice President of Healthcare & Institutional Security Don MacAlister's story, while yesterday was the turn of Social Media Manager Rachel Healy, who's from Ireland originally, and has been part of the Paladin family for four years. You can watch her video here
Today, Vladimir Batinić, CPP, who is Alberta Director of Healthcare Security based in our Calgary Branch, shares his story and an awesome video showing the results of his personal pledge to shave his head if he reached his $750 fundraising goal, which he did, and more!
- Why do you support the Canadian Cancer Society?
It’s one of the most worthwhile causes out there. A lot of people suffer because they are affected by cancer either directly or indirectly, and we can’t just stand by and hope the problem goes away. It’s our job to take action today, to help the CCS in their preventative measures and to further research to find a cure.
- Do you have a personal connection to cancer?
My grandmother passed away when I was 10 - a very impressionable age - due to complications related to breast cancer.
- What are you or your branch doing to support the Society?
I’ve decided to take the plunge and say goodbye to my full head of hair for a while by shaving it all off to raise awareness! I have also challenged all my Facebook friends and all my LinkedIn connections to skip a latte and donate $5 to our campaign.
- Why do you believe it’s important for your company to support the fight against cancer?
I think it’s important for us to fight together as this is a problem that affects the entire community, and is not isolated to a specific group, nation or location. Because Paladin is nationwide, we have a certain strength in numbers to try to make a positive impact in each of our regions of operation, and beyond.
- What would success look like to you as regards the fight against cancer?
That we pinpoint the various causes of cancer and work to eliminate them, one by one. So that no-one else should lose their health, life or loved ones to this terrible disease.
Watch Vlad's brave head shave below!
As you'll see from his "before" picture, Vladimir started out with a luscious head of hair, so we have to give him kudos for being such a good sport! You can still support him here
